"People" versus "Money"

In an effort to cut costs, my local library has substanially cut the number of magazines that it carries.

So I ask, if you had to choose which you think the library should keep, would it be "People" magazine or "Money" magazine?

Personally, and I don't think I'm alone in this one, I think "Money" would definitely seem to be a more educational publication than "People".

But, as I'm sure you've already guessed, yes, my library chose "People" over "Money".

Ironically, in just about every real life situation, I would recommend choosing people over money, but not in this case.

Discuss.

What can we learn from Ivanka Trump

My answer to that?  Not much.

This week, Donald Trump's daughter came out with a book entitled, "The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life."

In my opinion, it's 256 pages of reminding the general public that if you have money anything is possible.

I say skip this book and check out books by Wendy's Founder, Dave Thomas, including "Dave's Way" and "Dave Says...Well Done!: The Common Guy's Guide to Everyday Success".

Chime in with any other recommendations for good, inspriging books written by true business professionals who have something to offer in the way of education and/or encouragement.

Betty White gets naked at Los Angeles hot dog stand

Could life get any better for Betty White?

Eighty-eight year old White has seen a career resurgence with her recent co-starring role in the box office hit, "The Proposal" and her appearance in clever Snickers commercial, among other things.

She was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award early this year by the Screen Actors Guild and has been making the late night talk show curcuit, at the request of those shows, not for self-promotion.

Truthfully, this woman seems to not need to seek any further media promotion. A Facebook campaign landed her the hosting gig for the May 8, 2010 airing of "Saturday Night Live", and in June White will star in the TV Land original series, "Hot in Cleveland."

All of these accolades aren't without good reason. After all, this woman has one SIX emmy awards. She truly is an entertainment icon.

But of all this, the biggest honor has to be the new Betty White Hot Dog now being served at the world famous Pink's in Los Angeles.

White's speciality dog is a 'naked' hot dog. It has no toppings, no enhancements and that's just the way this classy lady wants it.

We should all be so lucky as to a live a life even half as good as the amazing Betty White.

At least we can enjoy the Betty White Hot Dog as we sit back and see what fabulous things will happen next for such a deserving lady.

More bad news for Larry King

The big news about Larry King is that he filed for divorce from his seventh, yes seventh, wife recently.

But in other news about King, several news organzations are reporting that ratings for his show are down a whopping 44% for the first three months of 2010.

Really? And this is shocking to whom? King is famously unprepared for interviews and never asks any guest the tough questions. He often seems completely clueless.

Why is that, you ask? Well, it has also been reported that King never prepares for interviews. He believes that viewers know little or nothing about a given guest so he prefers to begin as they would begin, and learn about the guest during the course of the show.

In my opinion, this may have worked years ago, prior to entertainment news shows and the internet, but now.....hardly. And King is foolish to think that the guests on his show are unknown to viewers.

It seems that Mr. King's time on air really should come to an end. I'm sure he'd be ok with this. It would give him more time to enjoy his other passion --- attending Dodger games.

Seriously, KFC? Some food good, some food very bad

With all the talk about health care lately, one would think that rather than passing a bill to help people we might actually ---- try to help people. By, I don't know maybe, stopping the problem before it starts. If obesity is truly the root of all evil in terms of health, then let's work on that issue. Help people be healthly so they don't end up having to use the health care system in the first place. Doesn't that sound like a good idea?

So check out these two things

First, KFC is introducing a sandwich called the 'Double Down'. The gambling reference is apparently lost on them, but not on me. This sandwich is beyond risky. And to actually call it a sandwich is pushing it a bit.

The 'sandwich' is bacon, cheese, and something called the 'Colonel's Sauce', all mashed between, not two slices of bread, but two hunks of chicken.

Here's a photo of the concoction:

Yeah. Yum. I don't go to KFC now and I doubt this will make me rush right out to one.

On the other end of the eating spectrum is chef "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution", a show that is currently airing on ABC.

If you have any doubts about how poorly people eat, watch this show.

Oliver is working in the town of Huntington, West Virginia, a place called the unhealthiest city in America.

Trying to teach folks about good nutrition, both myself and Chef Oliver were more than amazed that there are actually people out there who think french fries are a vegetable. Seriously.

Oliver is working with schools and families to help educate all about better food choices.

And it's not been easy. He's been met with resistance at nearly every turn.

Check out this show. It's sure to make you re-evulate your dietary habits. It airs on ABC on Friday nights and repeats on Saturday afternoon. Consult your local listings for exact times. You can also watch full episodes on abc.com.

So, in conclusion, thumbs up to Jamie Oliver for attempting a 'Food Revolution' and thumbs down to KFC for undermining what should be a nationwide quest for good health and not just a health plan to take care of people after they make poor choices regarding food.

What do you think about the new KFC 'sandwich' and "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution"?

Let's discuss.
